EDITORIAL: School-funding fix a prompt concern

Senate President Steve Sweeney has a strategy to revamp the state’s school funding formula. He wants to put together a bipartisan panel to develop a new method and present it to the Legislature for a basic yes-or-no vote. No endless tinkering, no tweaks here and cushioning there to accommodate more powerful lawmakers safeguarding their fiefdoms. Simply one accountable plan and if legislators agree, the state would phase in full application and financing of the formula within five years.
