Cops have launched an appeal for details after a body was apparently seen in the River Tay.

Officers are prompting anyone who might have seen a person acting suspiciously or in a concerning way close to the water at Riverside Drive between 9.30 pm and 10.40 pm last night to come forward.

After the sighting of the body was reported by a member of the public, the Coastguard immediately sprang into action and a search of the location was carried out.

The search resumed on Thursday morning but police reported there were no further sightings.

Cops Scotland continue to make enquiries into the event and more searches are planned.

Officers understand that a guy aged between 18 and his early twenties, about 5 feet seven inches tall and of medium/large construct was seen near the railway bridge on Riverside Drive at about 10pm.

At that time he was wearing a dark navy or grey hooded top and dark-coloured running bottoms.

Anyone who may acknowledge the description of this guy, or anyone who remained in the location of Riverside Drive last night, especially in the location in between Tesco and the Bridgeview Station Dining establishment is asked to contact Authorities Scotland on 101 as they might have info vital to the enquiry.
